*Bring on summer!*

It’s SUMMER, baby!!!

Happy Summer Solstice! I can’t help but be happy that summer has arrived. I love the sunshine. The longer, lazy days.  Swimming. Grilling. Staying up late. Stargazing. Camping. Adventuring. Playing bocce ball. Fresh, home-grown produce. Ice cold drinks… Oh yes. I’m ready! (I HATE fruit flies though. I’m currently being swarmed. They’re after my wine.)

To celebrate, I rode my bike this morning! I know that may not seem like a big deal but after a few failed attempts to go for a ride, and a lot of anxiety (which I cannot really explain), I ventured out this morning to meet up with my running group. The ride was about three miles round-trip. Most of all, I’m nervous about sharing the road with vehicles and how to maneuver safely with the flow of traffic. It is a weird phobia considering that I run regularly on rural roads. I noticed this morning that not being able to see cars coming created a little anxiety. I’ve got a lot of work to do to get comfortable out there but it is something I really want to do. Being that I’m a total beginner, I’m easing into it. Baby steps!

Celebrating the return of summer!

Either way, I’m quite proud of myself. It was the perfect way to start the day and the beginning of what I hope will be an epic summer full of lots and lots of adventures!!

  1. Hey! We have the same exact phobia. That’s exactly why I do aquathlons and not triathlons. I run, I swim, but I have so much fear riding a bike around cars. It’s so frustrating, so you should be proud of yourself. A 3 mile ride is a great accomplishment. GO YOU!!! XOXO!!!

  2. Congrats on working to conquer your fear of bikes. I get it–I’m scared to ride bikes, too (I had a really bad crash when I was a kid). I need to get over it, though–so many of my friends ride and love it.

    • I imagine that proves to be a challenge… I hope you find your way back onto a bike. It really is a lot of fun! What would you do if you weren’t afraid? (It’s my mantra and I rely on it almost daily!) ; )
