Well, it was bound to happen! The previous weeks stellar mileage (almost 50 miles!) dropped to just over 15 miles this past week due to a crazy-busy week filled with cross-country and a five-day work trip. The highlight of my week though was two awesome short runs along the Deschutes River in Bend, Oregon. I was staying just a few feet, literally, from a path that within less than a half-mile, turns to trail that follows the river for a short stretch but far enough that you forget you are just minutes from the robust city that I love so.
This week has started off slow but I’m hoping to wedge some decent runs in between cross-country practices and meets, work, and whatever else life throws my way in the coming days. And if all goes according to plan, I’ll be running my last Portland Marathon training run of 20 miles this weekend. So all is not lost. ; )
Mostly, I miss running! I managed to sneak in a half-mile during XC practice tonight and it felt so good! I’m really, really happy that I get a free afternoon tomorrow and can hit the pavement for a few miles. It’s kind of funny how much my life revolves around running this time of year (well, honestly, all year) but because my focus is on 13 young athletes, my own running is on the back burner right now. But I knew this would happen when I signed my contract for another year of coaching cross-country and honestly, I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything!
