About

Hello there and welcome!

This website and blog was created with the intention of sharing my journey of training for, and running, my first marathon in 2013. Though I never really had a huge desire to actually run a marathon, I felt myself drawn to the magic that is the Boston Marathon. But in order to run it, I’d have to qualify… by running a marathon in under three hours and 40 minutes.

Easy right? Run one marathon with a Boston qualifying time and then I’d only have to run one more in my life. Over glasses of wine at a happy hour gathering on a Friday in February, I spilled my goal (fortunately, not the wine!) to family and friends in attendance. It really wasn’t just the wine talking!

HA! Four marathons later, I finally qualified with a PR of 3:35:01. On April 20, 2015, my dream of running the Boston Marathon came true! Despite a cold, wet, and windy day in Boston, I ran my best marathon yet and not only set a new marathon PR with a time of 3:33:06, I also re-qualified for the 2016 Boston Marathon!

Holistic health and fitness have been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. I love sharing wellness opportunities with others and find so much joy in knowing that I’ve helped someone improve their quality of life. In 2010, I completed a year-long 200 hour yoga teacher training program and taught for more than four years. At the end of 2014, I decided to take a sabbatical from teaching to train for Boston and pursue other career opportunities.

Aside from running and training, I volunteer time with a couple of youth running programs in my community, coached middle school cross country during the 2014 fall season, and am always seeking ways to stay active. My greatest inspiration to stay healthy is my family. My husband of 19 years, and our two children, ages 17 and 13, are my greatest loves in life and I want them to have a healthy, active wife/mom who is a good example of whole, balanced living.

I love the outdoors! Hiking, backpacking, and camping are among my favorite activities. I love traveling and adventuring, spending time with family and friends, lounging around a bonfire, beach combing, cooking and eating healthy, delicious food, and in case you missed it, enjoying some yummy wine!

Thanks for stopping by and sharing my journey!

xo,

Hyla
